This metal arbor pays tribute to the Roman god of wine. Bacchus was a major figure in Roman and Greek mythology - the Greeks knew him as Dionysus. He represents not only the intoxicating power of wine, but also its social and beneficial influences. In addition to these wonderful traits, Bacchus is the patron deity of agriculture and the theatre - he's also associated with the earliest Mardi Gras Krewes. He was known as the Liberator (Eleutherios), freeing one from one's normal self, by madness, ecstasy, or wine. The divine mission of Dionysus was to mingle the music of the aulos and to give respite from the cares and worries of everyday life.
